2007 CAPL Operating Procedure
Fun Fact: The cover page of the initial 1971 CAPL Operating Procedure was also orange. As was the case with the 1971 document, the magnitude of change associated with the 2007 document was something with which industry struggled significantly. There was a critical mass of industry acceptance by around 2012, although also a large number of users who continued to prefer the 1990 document because of their continued comfort with the document with which they were so familiar.
This project was also notable for introducing the web enabled distribution process that was replicated and refined in the 2015 projects to update the Operating Procedure and the CAPL Farmout & Royalty Procedure, the 2017 project to update the CAPL Property Transfer Procedure and the project to create the 2018 PJVA-CAPL Pad Site Sharing Agreement. (See the A Potential Approach To Document Standardization Projects tab in the Other tab of the Resource Centre for additional information about this approach to projects.)
The link below is for a collection of articles published in the Negotiator during the course of the project to create the 2007 document that offers detailed insights on a diverse range of topics in that document. The articles have been re-sequenced for ease of use and slightly edited to reflect any intervening changes in the final version of the 2007 document. (See also the four-part series of Negotiator articles in the Transition from 1990 CAPL Operating Procedure tab that was published in 2011-2012 if you are looking for a higher level overview of the changes of greatest significance.)
These articles may be helpful to users currently transitioning from the 1990 document to the 2015 document. The comments in these articles typically apply equally to the 2015 document, other than for the increased functionality included for horizontal wells and resource projects in the 2015 document.
